Remember to think of note names. Know whether you need a whole step or a half step between each consecutive pair of notes.

The note names and therefore finger patterns of whole and half steps are, of course, different for Major scales than they are for harmonic minor, even though the fingering remains the same.

Also think of which position you are in so that you can check for secure touch points, thereby granting you greater accuracy and consistency time after time.
